The film tells the story of a lively teacher, Uchida, who decisively resigns from his university teaching position to focus on writing at home, leading to a series of amusing life events. Uchida is beloved by his students, who hold a birthday party for him every year. At each birthday party, the students ask the teacher, "Are you ready?" and Uchida's answer is always, "Not yet." Uchida's open-mindedness about life and death profoundly influences his students, constantly reminding them to maintain a healthy and positive mindset. When the professor's cat goes missing and cries, the students quickly visit him to help search for the cat, even distributing flyers at school and in the newspaper, hoping to help their teacher find his beloved pet and regain his smile. The strong bond between teachers and students runs throughout the film. At the end of the film, after the birthday party, Uchida falls asleep while his students drink and chat outside. In his dreams, he relives scenes from his childhood, playing hide and seek in a haystack, with a group of children repeatedly asking if they are hidden well, and he continuously replies, "Not yet, not yet."
