Awun (played by Lau Ching-wan) is a private detective who often exploits his two assistants, Ajie (played by Louis Koo) and Jipao (played by Chen Xiaochen). They bring back a magic lamp from an antique shop, and Awun casually throws the lamp into the street, where a witch named Hamipopo (played by Zhang Baizhi) emerges. Popo arrives at Awun's detective agency and asks each of them to make a wish; once fulfilled, Popo can return to her own world. Both Ajie and Awun think she is Jipao's cousin. However, the spell fails, and Awun and the others don't believe her, so she has to continuously help them. Awun's gambling is disrupted by Popo's faulty magic, leading to a conflict with Shi Jian (played by Ng Man-tat), who also recognizes Popo's chopstick sisters (Twins) as his goddaughters, resulting in a series of humorous situations.
