The story takes place in Reagan-era Ohio, where seemingly ordinary high school girl Maren (played by Taylor Russell) hides a terrifying desire within her body. After another incident, her father can no longer bear it and quietly leaves her. Through a tape left by her father, Maren learns that her mother lives somewhere in Minnesota, and her mother may know the secret of her horrific desire. During her journey, Maren encounters a strange old man named Sully (played by Mark Rylance), who keenly senses that they share a common bond—they are both cannibals who can only live in the dark. The girl rejects the old man's invitation and chooses to run away, soon encountering another person like her, Lee (played by Timothée Chalamet), which changes the course of their lives... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis.
