Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a fur trapper who is severely injured by a bear during a hunting expedition. He is rescued by the ship captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson), who hires two men, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) and Jim Bridger (Will Poulter), to take care of him. John Fitzgerald is only interested in claiming Glass's possessions and cruelly kills Glass's son, convincing Jim Bridger to abandon Glass in the wilderness to die. The two believe Glass will perish, but he survives for months in the wild and eventually returns to safety to seek revenge.
