A group of engineers arrived in a small village in Iran's Kurdistan province. The villagers were abuzz with speculation about the sudden arrival of these outsiders and their purpose for coming here. Although they felt foreign, the villagers still showed warm hospitality to their guests. One of the engineers took a keen interest in everything in the village. He followed the village children around every day, noticing an elderly woman who was ill, and kept inquiring about her condition. Because he needed to use a wireless phone to contact headquarters, and the signal in the village was poor, the engineer had to run to a cemetery on the mountain to take calls. While up there, he noticed a villager continuously digging a hole alone, and out of curiosity, he often approached the villager to chat. Suddenly, one day, the smooth days changed. The hole that the villager was digging collapsed, burying him alive, and when the doctor rushed to rescue him, he discovered that the elderly woman was also in critical condition. Faced with the loss of life, the engineer felt deeply melancholic. This film won the Special Jury Prize at the 56th Venice Film Festival.
