During the Korean War, at a certain high ground, intense battles are ongoing. Wang Cheng (Liu Shilong), a soldier of the Chinese Volunteer Army who just got out of the hospital, returns to his unit and requests to join the fight. He shows a letter from his father, Wang Fubiao (Zhou Wenbin), encouraging him to make contributions to the country, to Commander Zhang (Guo Zhenqing) and Political Commissar Wang Wenqing (Tian Fang). Wang Fubiao is an old comrade of Wang Wenqing, and he knows that Wang Cheng is Wang Fubiao's son. Wang Cheng sacrifices heroically in battle, prompting the entire regiment to learn from him. Wang Cheng's sister, Wang Fang (Liu Shangxian), despite her deep sorrow, devotes herself to creation. In her interaction with Wang Fang, although Wang Wenqing recognizes her as his daughter who was left behind eighteen years ago and later adopted by Wang Fubiao, he does not acknowledge her but encourages her to learn from her brother through action. Wang Fang also displays bravery in later battles.
