In ancient Japan during the Edo period, the Tokugawa shogunate maintained a secluded peace and absolute rule of the shogun family. The fifth shogun, Tsunayoshi (played by Takagawa Hiroki), visits the Hanshu Akō domain led by Asano Takumi (played by Tanaka Min). Kira, treacherous and ambitious, employs the enchantress Mizuki (played by Kikuchi Rinko) to seduce Lord Asano, leading him to draw his blade against Kira. The furious shogun orders Asano to commit seppuku and strictly prohibits Akō's elder Kiritsubo (played by Sanada Hiroyuki) from taking private revenge. Proud samurai instantly become ronin, and the mixed-blood boy Kō (played by Keanu Reeves), adopted freely by the lord, faces unjust treatment. After enduring humiliation for a period, Kiritsubo gathers forty-six loyal and brave Akō samurai to secretly plot their revenge against Kira. He eventually finds Kō, who has long admired the lord’s daughter, Mika (played by Shibasaki Kou), and joins the revenge group to protect his beloved from Kira's taint. The classic tale of the forty-seven ronin is presented in a unique form...
