This film is based on the true story of Australian pianist David Helfgott. David (played by Alex Rafalowicz), born into a Jewish family, displayed extraordinary talent from a young age. His father, wanting him to succeed, forced David to practice piano relentlessly and even unrealistically made him challenge the "most difficult piece to play in the world," the D minor third piano concerto. David suffered under his father's shadow, and to prevent family disruption, his father went to great lengths to stop him from studying abroad, leading to a rift between them. As a young adult, David (played by Noah Taylor) traveled to study at the Royal College of Music in England. During this time, the "Rach 3" remained an unfinished aspiration, and after intense preparation, he finally stepped onto the stage to challenge the limits his father had set for him... The film won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1997 (Geoffrey Rush).
