This film depicts one of the most brutal battles in human history: the Battle of Thermopylae. In 480 BC, Persian King Xerxes I (played by Rodrigo Santoro) personally led an army of 300,000 to conquer Greece. The city-states of Greece quickly dispatched troops to form a coalition to resist the invasion of the Persian army. The frontline was established at Thermopylae, where King Leonidas of Sparta (played by Gerard Butler) commanded 300 elite warriors alongside over 4,000 coalition soldiers. Due to betrayal, the Greek army was surrounded by the Persian forces. To preserve the strength of the coalition, Leonidas ordered the withdrawal of the coalition forces while he and his 300 Spartans held the pass. As the hundreds of thousands of Persian soldiers surged towards them, the Spartans, aware of their impending doom, actually felt their morale soar, unleashing incredible combat power during the battle. The entire conflict lasted for 2 days, and in the end, Leonidas and all of his 300 men were killed, while the Persian army lost over 20,000 soldiers, including two brothers of Xerxes I who died in the battle...
