The novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Mizuki Tsujimura, which topped various bestseller lists in Japan, has been adapted into a film directed by the renowned director Keiichi Hara (Summer Days with Coo). It tells a heartbreaking story: high school freshman Shirakawa Kokoro is bullied by her classmates and refuses to go to school. A mirror in her room takes her to a castle where she meets six peers who have had similar experiences. The fresh visuals deeply touch on the pain caused by school violence, as the naive youths navigate a life intertwined with bullying through the distortion of time and fate, ultimately leading to mutual understanding and redemption. After its release in Japan during the 2022 Christmas season, the film achieved decent box office success, was selected for the "Spotlight" section of the 2023 Rotterdam Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Animation at the Japanese Academy Awards.
