Master of cheating Qian Wendi (played by Andy Lau) collaborates with his girlfriend Lily (played by Hong Kong actress Christy Chung) and friend "Golden Finger" A-Zhi to win six million Hong Kong dollars from wealthy Liu Yaozu in a gambling match. Enraged upon discovering he has been deceived, Liu Yaozu kidnaps A-Zhi and coerces Wendi to go to prison for him, so he can reclaim Liu's three hundred million assets from inmate Rubin Sun (played by Kwan Hoi-San). Fearing for his friend's safety, Wendi reluctantly complies, entering prison and the territory of his adversary—prison guard assassin Xiong (played by Tony Leung Ka-Fai). Wendi quickly establishes himself in prison through his exceptional skills, even winning over the assassin Xiong. As Wendi's contacts with Rubin Sun deepen, he discovers that Rubin Sun is actually Liu Yaozu's father-in-law. Liu Yaozu has long coveted Rubin Sun's wealth, going so far as to murder his wife in the process; Rubin Sun, seeking revenge for his daughter, ends up wronged and living a miserable life in prison.
