Lin Chaorong (played by Leslie Cheung) is a recently dismissed insurance broker. The low point in his career and emotional setbacks lead him back into the arms of his old friend Ruan Shisheng’s (played by Tony Leung) sister, and he borrows money from his friend to take a gamble in Macau to turn his life around. Although he returns unsuccessful, he meets a big boss (played by Cheng Kar Ping) who appreciates him and falls for the boss's lover (played by Rosamund Kwan). To help the boss make money, Lin Chaorong decides to sell the elderly care home he has steadfastly held on to, despite Ruan Shisheng's objections. However, the pain and indifference of his friends ultimately help Lin Chaorong rediscover some truths about life...
