In the early 1950s, at a middle school in Beijing. As the new school year begins, there is both camaraderie and conflicts among the students. The youth league secretary, Zheng Bo (played by Zhang Min), has been paying close attention to Hu Mali (played by Shi Tianyin), who grew up in an orphanage. Yang Qiangyun (played by Ren Yexiang) gives some advice to Li Chun (played by Liang Yan), who just received a study medal, and stands up for Zheng Bo when he doesn't get a medal, which leads to an argument between the two. One day, Zheng Bo unexpectedly meets journalist Tian Lin (played by Guo Kaimin), and they happily reminisce about their experiences during the underground work before the liberation of Beijing.
