The piano teacher Rieki (played by Eri Fukatsu), who lives alone, once had a happy and carefree life. However, everything changed three years ago when her husband Yusuke Yabuuchi (played by Tadanobu Asano) went missing. One night, while preparing a meal, Rieki suddenly sees Yusuke walking in from outside. What follows shocks her even more: her husband, who was a dentist three years ago, was diagnosed with a terminal illness and left home quietly to find a quiet place to die. Some kind of obsession has brought him back to the world in a living form after three years of wandering. At Yusuke's suggestion, a skeptical Rieki embarks on a journey to retrace their steps over the past three years. Along the way, they meet people who once cared for her husband, and the secrets between the couple emerge, allowing them to finally face each other openly... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name serialized by Yoshimi Tsubaki in "Bungei Shunjū" in 2009.
