Wang Shuangli (played by Niu Zhenhua) is the acting director of a cultural center in a certain area. He has been in this acting position for several years without any promotions or changes. Unexpectedly, a new cultural center director, Old Ma (played by Lei Kesheng), arrives, making Wang Shuangli's chances of becoming the official director even slimmer. Old Ma was originally the deputy township head, and Wang Shuangli considers him a country bumpkin, feeling quite dismissive. Leveraging his familiarity with the interpersonal relationships within the cultural center, he devises various ways to give Old Ma a hard time. After several rounds of competition, Old Ma is finally pushed out, and Wang Shuangli becomes the acting director again, regaining favor with the leadership. However, just as he thinks he has succeeded, Secretary Xiao Yan (played by Li Qiang) becomes the new director.
