During World War II, German submarines launched large-scale attacks on Allied transport ships, aiming to prevent resources from the United States from being transported to Britain, thereby plunging it into a scarcity of domestic resources. The protagonist of this film is the captain of a transport ship requisitioned by the Allies, whose mission is to tow back the captain of a ship destroyed by German submarines on the high seas and rescue the crew aboard. While simple, this is a very dangerous job. The protagonist's dormitory is shared with his former colleague, and his wife also lives there. (Aside: During wartime, many soldiers' wives and girlfriends, after losing their husbands or lovers, often become somewhat fallen and turn into sexual objects, a phenomenon that was notably prominent in wartime Europe but has never been officially recognized by history.) The plot is cliché with the two characters falling in love; although they part ways at the end, the conclusion suggests that they will ultimately be together. ~
