In 1927, underground party member Qian Zhuangfei (played by Kong Xiangyu) left Beiping disguised as a doctor to protect himself and moved to Shanghai. After arriving in Shanghai, Qian Zhuangfei lost contact with the party. However, he caught the attention of his fellow townsman, Xu Enzeng, a cousin of Chen Lifu from the Nationalist Party’s Central Secretariat. Xu Enzeng invited Qian Zhuangfei to join the Central Party Affairs Investigation Section and appreciated his talents. Soon after, Qian Zhuangfei reestablished contact with the underground organization and received approval from the central leadership to infiltrate the enemy and remain undercover for an extended period.
In the Nationalist Party’s secret organization, Qian Zhuangfei gradually earned Xu Enzeng's trust, successfully deciphered important confidential reports, and prevented a raid on the Shanghai underground organization triggered by Gu Shunzhang's betrayal. Qian Zhuangfei safely evacuated Shanghai and went to the Central Soviet Area to join the Red Army. This experience showcased Qian Zhuangfei's wit and bravery during his undercover operations and demonstrated the determination and spirit of sacrifice of underground party members fighting for the revolutionary cause in difficult circumstances.
