Mildred (Frances McDormand) experiences the horrific murder of her daughter while out, leading to the end of her marriage with her husband Charlie (John Hawkes). Now, she lives a life relying solely on her son Robbie (Lucas Hedges). Months pass, and the case shows no signs of resolution, with the police seemingly having shifted their focus away from it. Tormented by despair and grief, Mildred rents three giant billboards along the highway to criticize the police’s inability to solve the case, directly targeting Police Chief Willoughby (Woody Harrelson). In reality, Willoughby is hiding the fact that he is terminally ill. The presence of these billboards brings significant changes to the lives of both Mildred and Willoughby.
