Recently, Huayi Brothers announced that "The Legend of Little Water Tiger of Old Master Q," co-produced with Old Master Q Ha Media, will be released on January 27, 2011. This marks the first collaboration between the well-known "Toho Co., Ltd." and Chinese animation, as well as Huayi Brothers' first entry into the Spring Festival children's film market. Old Master Q and his partner Big Yam, well-known to Chinese audiences, will team up with the new animated character "Little Water Tiger" to confront the four Dragon Kings with distinct personalities. With the help of magical spirits, they will venture deep into the sea and desert, battling the ocean crisis caused by the villain "Fiery King," embarking on a twisting and thrilling journey filled with fun. "The Legend of Little Water Tiger of Old Master Q" is adapted from the "Old Master Q" comic series, re-presenting the classic four-panel comic in a 2D retro style on the big screen. The "Old Master Q" comic has been published in various magazines in Hong Kong such as Sing Tao Daily, Daily News, Kuaibao, and Ming Pao since 1962, gaining influence that has gradually extended overseas, with publications in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Europe, North America, India, and Thailand. The global sales have reached nearly 100 million copies to date. In addition to its impressive sales, the "Old Master Q" comic has expanded into various fields. In 1965, the character was used by the Hong Kong government's Information Services Department for anti-drug campaigns. In 1981, the animated film adapted from "Old Master Q" won the "Best Animated Feature" at the 18th Golden Horse Awards. In 1984, the Hong Kong government issued a "stored value commemorative phone card" featuring "Old Master Q." In 1998, the "Old Master Q" comic series was selected as the best children's comic reading material by the Taipei City Government's Information Bureau. A report from the "2006 Hong Kong Reading Campaign" indicated that "Old Master Q" was the favorite comic of primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong. Additionally, original manuscripts of "Old Master Q" were auctioned by Sotheby's, becoming the world's first animated item ever auctioned. After 47 years, "Old Master Q," as one of the most influential animations created by Chinese people, is regarded as the "evergreen tree of the comic world" in the Chinese community, having touched countless hearts and enriched our childhood memories. Director Ang Lee has publicly expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you, Old Master Q, for nourishing my imagination and sense of humor in my youth." Noted historian and writer Pi Yang succinctly expressed the allure of "Old Master Q" comics: "Life has three great fatal attractions: politics, religion, and love. We can now add a fourth fatal attraction: 'Old Master Q' comics."
