The story takes place in France in 1971, where Daphné (played by Izïa Higelin) is the daughter of a farmer. Refusing to accept the future her parents have arranged for her, the strong-willed Daphné chooses to run away from home, traveling alone to the bustling metropolis of Paris, hoping to carve out her own space. In Paris, Daphné encounters Carol (played by Cécile De France), a fighter devoted to the feminist movement. As time goes by, the two break down gender barriers and come together. When the news of her father's stroke arrives, Daphné has to bid farewell to Carol and return to her hometown. Unable to bear the pain of missing Daphné, Carol travels a long distance to the farm, hoping to start their pastoral life of working at sunrise and resting at sunset. However, their special relationship soon faces public scrutiny, which puts Daphné in a difficult dilemma.
