The proletarian revolutionary and founder of the Soviet Union, Lenin (played by Leonid Mozgovoy), similarly cannot escape the natural law of birth, aging, sickness, and death. As he ages and is afflicted with illness, his increasingly weary body and mind can no longer cope with the political struggles both inside and outside the party, and he watches helplessly as new elites within the party replace his position. This once-glorious leader can only seclude himself in a corner, waiting for death to approach, as the world gradually erases him from memory... This film won seven awards at the 2002 Nika Awards, including Best Actor (Leonid Mozgovoy), Best Actress (Mariya Kuznetsova), Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film, Best Production, and Best Screenplay; it also received seven awards from the Russian Critics Association in 2001, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film, Best Art Direction, and Best Screenplay.
