The story takes place in a middle-class neighborhood in Mexico City called "Roma," focusing on a young maid named Cleo (played by Yalitza Aparicio) working in the home of her employer Sofia (played by Marina de Tavira), whose husband is often away. Cleo cares for Sofia's four children. Two sudden accidents strike both Cleo and Sofia, leaving them to face a bitter and uncertain life. The four children seem to be a glimmer of hope. This film is shaped by the childhood memories of director Alfonso Cuarón, who is actually one of the children depicted in the film.
