Rome, summer, a group of tourists weaving through the city. This breathtakingly beautiful ancient city is enticing them with a mysterious and aloof demeanor, capturing their hearts willingly with its exquisitely despairing beauty, intoxicating them. However, in the eyes of Jep Gambardella (played by Toni Servillo), Rome is a lonely capital. At 65, Jep is a successful journalist, charming and charismatic. A literary work he wrote in his youth brought him both fame and fortune early on. He moves through a world of indulgence and extravagant socializing, witnessing the emptiness and secrets behind this beautiful city with eyes cold enough to be almost numb. As the aria of the soprano sounds again, Jep, who drifts between ordinary life and high society, begins to reclaim those lost memories of youth, while the city of Rome remains indifferent and magnificent, unchanged. This film won the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014 and the Best Foreign Language Film at the 71st Golden Globe Awards in 2014, and was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the main competition of the 66th Cannes Film Festival in 2013.
