Ricky (Julian Dennison) is a very difficult little boy who has no friends and only brings endless trouble to others. Finally, due to his troublesome actions, Ricky is sent to a small village surrounded by mountains, where his tough aunt Paula (Rachel House) and his intimidating scar-faced uncle Heck (Sam Neill) live. Although Ricky pretends to hate life there and repeatedly tries to escape, Paula's care and love gradually melt the ice in his heart. For the first time, Ricky feels that being loved is a warm thing, as warm as the hot water bottle his aunt prepares for him every day. However, the good times don't last long, as his aunt passes away, and Ricky is to be sent back to the welfare home.
