Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming dynasty ascends the throne, and the chief eunuch Wei Zhongxian (played by Jin Shijie) and his "castrated party" are exterminated by the Jinyiwei. Among the Jinyiwei, the sworn brothers Lu Jianxing (played by Wang Qianyuan), Shen Lian (played by Zhang Zhen), and Jin Yichuan (played by Li Dongxue) are the most brave and righteous.
