Young and handsome American soldier Barry (Troy Garity) meets a stunning dancer in a strip club. His companions urge him to flirt and see if the dancer is a man or a woman. Barry politely strikes up a conversation, keeping his friends' crude bets a secret, thereby winning the affection of the trans dancer named Adams (Lee Pace). The two fall for each other, experiencing great happiness. Barry's roommate, Fisher (Shawn Hatosy), is very jealous and constantly provokes trouble, ultimately inciting a new recruit to brutally end Barry's life at the age of 22 with a baseball bat. July 4th is Independence Day in America, and Adams shines at the celebratory event, while Barry lies in a pool of blood at his distant apartment. When the crowned Adams learns of Barry's tragic fate, he is so devastated that he can hardly stand. He bends down, curling up, crying in despair, as if every part of his body, touched by Barry, is permeated with the pain of being cut and tortured... This film is based on a true story, depicting the shocking tragedy of an American soldier who was killed by his comrades' jealousy after falling in love with a trans dancer. Directed by Oscar winner Frank Pierson, it was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries, the Emmy Award for Best Director, and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead/Supporting Actor, among others.
