Dali (Viggo Mortensen) is a Frenchman born in Algeria, currently teaching at a remote mountain school. One day, a police officer appears before Dali, handing him a shackled prisoner named Mohamed (Reda Kateb), who is accused of murdering his cousin. Dali is tasked with escorting him to a nearby village for trial. Dali finds this difficult task very daunting, as he knows that once Mohamed reaches the village, death awaits him. Reluctant to be an accomplice in this fate, Dali has no choice but to take Mohamed on the journey after the police officer leaves. Throughout the trip, Dali must not only guard against Mohamed's escape but also protect him from the wrath of the victim's relatives.
