In 1942, World War II had entered a critical phase. In the South Pacific, fierce competition erupted between Japan and the United States, and the very essence of humanity was utterly destroyed amidst the sounds of gunfire. The "Charlie Company," part of the U.S. Army, received a daunting mission to land on Guadalcanal and reclaim the 210 position occupied by Japanese forces. The Japanese had the advantage of terrain and their defenses were impregnable. However, orders are orders; even in the face of fire and death, the brave soldiers of Charlie Company pressed forward. This group of young men threw themselves into this brutal and bloody battlefield for the sake of so-called justice…This film is adapted from the 1962 novel of the same name by American author James Jones and won the Golden Bear and an honorary mention at the 1999 Berlin International Film Festival; the Best Cinematography Award from the Chicago Film Critics Association in 1999; the Best Foreign Language Film Award from the Australian Film Critics Association in 2000; and the Best Foreign Language Film Director Award from Movie Weekly in 2000.
