During the Qing Dynasty, the Shaolin Temple plotted to rebel against the Qing and restore the Ming, but was eradicated by Qing soldiers. The disciples of Shaolin scattered, and the Qing court's hounds pursued relentlessly... Shaolin lay disciple Fang Shiyu (played by Ji Tiansheng) hides in the desert with his master, Master Zhineng, to evade the Qing troops, and unexpectedly meets the reformed prostitute Dou Dou (played by Li Ruotong). The three become acquainted in chaotic times, and Fang Shiyu falls in love with Dou Dou at first sight. Surrounded by Qing soldiers, Zhineng meets a tragic end, and Shiyu and Dou Dou are taken back to the Red Lotus Temple. Under the control of God Gong (played by Huang Jinjiong), many Shaolin disciples are forced into slavery. The former Shaolin secular disciple Hong Xiguan submits to God Gong as a foreman and fights fiercely with Fang Shiyu. Shiyu is secretly plotted against by God Gong and is left on the brink of death. The Red Lotus Temple is filled with traps, and many Shaolin disciples lose their lives in labor. Dou Dou, favored by God Gong, pleads for Shiyu's life. A group of Shaolin disciples is determined to break out of the Red Lotus Temple and regain their freedom...
