The film mainly tells the story of a flight attendant who, unable to endure prolonged domestic violence, cruelly kills her husband on a stormy night and seeks death, only to regain her confidence in life with the help of a legal aid lawyer. In a dimly lit, chaotic room, Ouyang Zhihua, dressed in tattered clothing, with swollen, bloodied lips, disheveled hair, and a desperate gaze, drags a golf club barefoot toward the sofa in the living room. Zhihua’s expression changes from cold to angry as she raises the golf club and violently strikes Zhang Ziying amidst the thunder and lightning. A glass jar filled with paper cranes shatters on the table, glass shards fly, paper cranes scatter across the floor, and blood stains the photos of Zhihua in her flight attendant uniform and a family portrait on the wall. The white paper cranes that have fallen to the ground are stained red with blood. As Ouyang Zhihua's legal aid lawyer, Zhang Tong goes to the detention center to understand the situation. Seeing that Zhihua has given up on life, Zhang Tong feels there must be more to the case. Anxious, Zhang Tong quickly launches an investigation to gather evidence. She visits the detention center multiple times to talk with Ouyang Zhihua, sharing her own experiences to encourage Zhihua to be strong for her son, Duo Duo, and not to give up. After several attempts, Zhihua reveals the truth about Zhang Ziying's drug abuse and the domestic violence she endured for two years. Zhang Tong discovers horrific footage of Zhang Ziying's abuse from video recordings along with evidence of his drug use. On the day of the trial, however, Zhang Tong encounters a traffic accident. With the help of Mao Yi, she manages to appear in court. The judge ultimately finds Ouyang Zhihua guilty of murder but, taking into account Zhang Ziying's drug use and domestic violence, reduces the sentence to 15 years in prison. Three months later, in a prison uniform, Zhihua is exercising in the yard. Outside the high walls, Zhang Tong runs with a drone, controlling it to carry a string of paper cranes that display the banner, "Go, Mom! I love you!" in the sky.
