In the winter of 1940, Chinese orphans Chuchu (Guo Keyu) and Luo Xiaoman (Xu Xiaoli) were sent to the Ivanov International Children's Home near Moscow to study. In class, when Chuchu recounted the horrifying scene of witnessing her father brutally murdered by fascist executioners, both the teacher and classmates were deeply shocked. Afterwards, she and Luo Xiaoman led a relatively peaceful life, until they were separated and sent to different cities for summer camp. The German invasion of Moscow forced Chuchu to witness death once more, and she herself was captured by the Germans, falling into the hands of a German general with a penchant for tattooing and painting on women's bodies. Nightmares began from then on, while Luo Xiaoman became the "black messenger" delivering death notices from the rear.
