As World War II is about to end, the honest Chinese commoner Yang Yufu (Fu Dalong) is rescued by the Soviet Red Army from the Japanese slaughter. On the way to the rear, the Soviet troops mistakenly enter a Japanese military camp, and after a fierce battle, Yang Yufu and female military doctor Naja (Anna Jenna Lova) escape into the forest, where they encounter a girl, Qiu Yezi (Maeda Tomoe), who has been separated from the Japanese army. Having been indoctrinated with militaristic ideology, Qiu Yezi is determined to put Yang Yufu and Naja to death. After several dangerous situations, Naja can no longer tolerate Qiu Yezi's actions and urges Yang Yufu to kill her, but he cannot bring himself to do it.
In the vast forest, the three of them, who cannot communicate verbally, gradually develop a bond through a series of trials. Qiu Yezi realizes the absurdity of her previous behavior and reveals her innocent side. However, the laughter is only temporary; the war has not forgotten them, and tragedy soon strikes.
