Mike (Bruce Willis) is a renowned child psychologist, yet he has a patient he has never been able to cure, and as a result, he was even shot by this patient, who later took his own life. This left Mike with a significant psychological trauma. A year later, he finds another boy, Cole (Haley Joel Osment), who exhibits similar symptoms to that patient, and he patiently begins to act as his doctor. Cole is not easy to approach, but Mike gradually earns his trust and learns about Cole's secret. It turns out that Cole has a supernatural sixth sense that allows him to see ghosts. Although this is hard to believe, Mike helps Cole accept this fact after confirming the truth of the situation. However, just when the problem seems to be resolved, Mike discovers, guided by Cole, an even more shocking secret…
