Damien Bonnard (played by Damien Bonnard) is a painter and a patient with bipolar disorder. He experiences extreme fluctuations in life and art. Sometimes, he is passionately immersed in creating art, working day and night; at other times, he is obsessed with housework to the point of paranoia; sometimes, he energetically organizes outings for the family, driven by a strong desire to perform. Yet, he can also fall into deep depression, feeling gloomy, desperate, and as if he has accomplished nothing. When Damien has another episode, his wife Leïla (played by Leïla Bekhti) bears tremendous pain and pressure. She feels helpless and has to share the responsibility with Damien's father to admit him to the hospital for mandatory treatment. All of this is observed by their son, who cannot understand his father's illness or the gradually deteriorating relationship between his parents. When Damien returns from the hospital, the son feels overjoyed, but what he doesn't realize is that this merely signifies the beginning of his mother's physical and mental exhaustion leading to a breakdown.
