In 1912, Sun Yat-sen (played by Qiu Xinzhi) was elected as the provisional president of the Nanjing National Government. Yuan Shikai (played by Zhang Qiuge), based in Beijing, plotted to force the Qing Dynasty to abdicate, seizing the fruits of the revolution and being elected as president. After this, Sun Yat-sen laid down his military post and went to Japan, while Song Jiaoren (played by Tian Liang), filled with ambition, organized a national assembly, sought the presidency, and continued to promote the implementation of the republic, ultimately falling victim to assassination by Yuan’s faction. Upon hearing the bad news, Sun rushed back to his homeland, issued a declaration against Yuan, and hastily initiated the Second Revolution. Due to various reasons, the revolution ultimately failed, and Sun along with Huang Xing (played by Yao Judé) fled to Japan, with former friends parting ways, and the domestic revolutionary situation remaining grim.
