This film is adapted from the historical events of the Wushe Incident. In 1895, after the Treaty of Shimonoseki ceded Taiwan, Japan immediately took military control of Taiwan, with various regions being attacked. The mountainous areas of Taiwan, due to inaccessible roads, remained relatively unaffected initially, but among the Seediq people in Wushe, the young generation led by Mona Rudao (played by Yu Da-qing) stood out with remarkable bravery, leading his people in relentless battles against the Japanese forces. The Japanese coveted the rich resources of the Wushe area and attempted to seize them, but faced strong resistance from the Seediq people, suffering heavy casualties. Ultimately, they managed to infiltrate Wushe due to inter-tribal conflicts among the indigenous groups. Mona Rudao had no choice but to endure humiliation and surrender, but the flame of resistance in his heart never extinguished. By 1930, Japan had been implementing its "civilizing" reforms on the Wushe indigenous people for many years; however, the so-called civilization represented by the Japanese language did not provide the indigenous people with an equal living standard. The oppression by the Japanese and the heavy labor eroded the traditions and dignity of the Seediq people. Years of accumulated anger finally erupted in that year!
