Ko Chun (played by Chow Yun-fat) comes to Hong Kong to duel with the God of Gamblers, but upon arriving, he is hunted by Brother Nan (played by Yang Zelin) and ends up falling into a trap and losing his memory. Fortunately, he is saved by Dagger (played by Andy Lau) and his girlfriend, Chan (played by Joey Wong), who take Ko Chun home to recuperate. Upon discovering Ko Chun's mastery of gambling, they are thrilled and plan to use him to make big money, but instead, they end up losing money due to Ko Chun's inconsistent performance. Ko Chun's wife is insulted and murdered by his cousin, Ko Yi, who is drunk. Ko Yi then teams up with Brother Nan to plot against Ko Chun, searching everywhere for his hiding spot to kill him. During his escape, Ko Chun is injured in a car accident and surprisingly regains his memory—however, he cannot remember anything from the time he was amnesiac. Dagger warns Chun that Ko Yi is not a good person, but Chun remains unaware, oblivious to his imminent danger.
