The story takes place at the end of World War II in a small town in Sicily, where the residents are immersed in a lively celebratory atmosphere. During this gap, the devil disguises himself and blends in, arriving at the home of the town's photographer, Ceresitino (Gennaro Pisano). He asks to stay over, and the kind Ceresitino welcomes him. The devil casts a spell on a camera in Ceresitino's shop, causing anyone photographed by this camera to die. Upon discovering this secret, Ceresitino feels both fear and excitement, and he tells the town's priest and mayor about it, but no one is willing to believe him and some even think he has gone mad. Continually denied and mocked, Ceresitino's heart gradually darkens as he realizes that this camera can help him "punish the wicked and promote the good."
