In the 13th century, the Japanese monk Dogen (played by Nakamura Kantaro) traveled a long way to the Song Dynasty, visiting famous mountains and rivers in search of the true meaning of Buddhism. However, the major temples were engrossed in incense and politics, making it difficult to find the true path. After many hardships, Dogen unexpectedly met Master Nyojō at Tendo Mountain, ultimately gaining enlightenment and returning to Japan. At that time, Japan was in the chaotic Kamakura period, with rampant violence, theft, and sexual immorality, leaving even monks disinterested in practice, caught up in greed and pleasure. Dogen established the Soto school, attracting sincere followers, but faced resentment from other sects. With the support of the local governor Hatano and his disciples, Dogen led his followers to Echizen, where he established Eiheiji, slowly expanding the Soto school... This film is adapted from Tetsuo Otani's original work "The Wind of Eiheiji: The Life of Dogen."
