Fan Gaoshang (Liang Xiaolong) is an antique dealer who seeks to obtain the priceless head of the Acala Buddha. Gu San (Lai Xi), Fan Gaoshang's subordinate, participates in the theft of the Buddha head. Gu San's grandmother is seriously ill and requires a large sum of money for medical expenses, so Gu San secretly sells the Buddha head to Sun Mingxian (Yuan Hua) and makes off with the money, which infuriates Fan Gaoshang. Later, Gu San meets a woman named Lian'er (Lu Yuanyuan), and they share similar interests and mutual admiration. Lian'er's father, who has been missing for many years, unexpectedly discovers the Buddha head abroad, buys it, and brings it back to Jinan. The return of the Buddha head excites Fan Gaoshang, who kidnaps Gu San's grandmother and demands the Buddha head in exchange.
