Lincoln (played by Denzel Washington) is paralyzed due to work-related injuries. He was once a renowned detective, solving countless cases, but he has isolated himself ever since his paralysis. This time, he is invited by the New York police to help with a mysterious murder case. At first, Lincoln declines the invitation, but upon seeing the details of the case, he becomes emotionally involved. Recently, there has been a mysterious dismemberment case in New York, with the killer deliberately leaving evidence to challenge the police. Patrol officer Emilia (played by Angelina Jolie) discovers a dismembered body during her last patrol, but when she makes a series of bold hypotheses, her colleagues dismiss her, considering her just an unknown patrol officer.
