Ramanujan (played by Dev Patel) was born into a very poor family in India. From a young age, he displayed extraordinary mathematical talent, but due to his family's financial struggles, he couldn't receive a good educational environment. In 1904, Ramanujan managed to attend the Government College of Kumbakonam due to his own efforts, but he did not graduate because of serious academic deficiencies. After that, he began to self-study mathematics. In 1912, Ramanujan's paper "Some Properties of Bernoulli Numbers" was published, which made some waves in the mathematical community and brought him some fame. Following this, with the help of a friend, Ramanujan wrote a letter of recommendation to the famous mathematician Hardy (played by Jeremy Irons). Hardy took great interest in this promising young man and recommended him for further studies at Cambridge University.
