Ever since surviving that catastrophe which all Jews dread to speak of, Jonathan (Elijah Wood) has been determined to find the savior who once helped his grandfather. As his grandfather's time on Earth is coming to an end, this daunting task naturally falls on Jonathan's shoulders. With an old photograph given to him by his grandfather, Jonathan embarks on a journey to the site of his grandfather's rescue in Ukraine, where he encounters the suspiciously behaving guide Alex (Eugene Hutz) and the incredibly irritable old man Boris (Jonathan Safran Foer). They say that strength in numbers is powerful, but with these three together, there hasn't been much progress, and they've managed to attract a heap of trouble. Yet, it is through their shared hardships that a strong friendship forms between the three of them. Moreover, amidst countless trials, each of them gains new insights into their own lives.
