In 19th century England, class distinctions are still very pronounced. One day, Lucy (played by Helena Bonham Carter), who comes from the British upper class, is on vacation in Florence with her cousin Charlotte. Unfortunately, the room Lucy is staying in at the hotel has no view. Meanwhile, a British father and son, George (played by Julian Sands) and his father, offer to switch rooms with Lucy because their room has a view. Initially, Lucy disagrees, but after the kind hotel owner's persuasion, she eventually agrees. Lucy and George quickly fall in love, but George, who comes from a lower class, has many "bad habits" that Lucy finds unacceptable, and Charlotte also doesn't particularly like George, leading to several amusing misunderstandings in their relationship. Once, George "crosses the line" and kisses Lucy, leading her to feel that George is too "improper," and she decides to return to England alone. George soon returns home as well, but by then, Lucy is already engaged…
