In the 1960s in Mississippi, black maid Aibileen (Viola Davis) diligently takes care of her employer's daughter, who is consumed with postpartum depression and indulging in time with her friends. Recent University of Mississippi graduate Skeeter (Emma Stone) is in charge of the housewife's mailbox at a newspaper, which leads her to explore the struggles of black maids. Among them, Hilly (Bryce Dallas Howard) is undoubtedly a negative example; she is arrogant, holds prejudice against maid Minny (Octavia Spencer), and insists that black maids cannot share bathrooms with their employers. Ultimately, feeling humiliated, Minny storms out and gets her revenge by shaming Hilly under the guise of an apology. Skeeter begins interviewing Aibileen and Minny, hoping to understand the plight of the maids and gather material for her new book. Meanwhile, the civil rights movement led by Martin Luther King Jr. is in full swing, and Mississippi is at the forefront of the struggle, as racial segregation starts amid the violence of black shootings, making a clash over skin color inevitable...
