Rosetta (Valentina Scalici) and Luciano (Giuseppe Ieracitano) are a pair of siblings who depend on each other. Their mother is imprisoned for forcing her daughter into prostitution. After this incident is exposed by the media, they are sent on a train to an orphanage by two police officers. One of the officers leaves early, trusting the siblings to the care of Officer Antonio (Enrico Lo Verso). The sister carries the psychological burden of being a child prostitute, while the brother acts according to his own desires, leading to constant arguments between them. Antonio silently watches over them, carefully protecting their innocent hearts. After experiencing a series of misfortunes including robbery, hotel eviction, school expulsion, and asthma, Antonio seems to establish a fatherly yet friendly bond with the siblings. However, a newspaper threatens to push their world to the brink of collapse… This film won the Jury Prize at the 45th Cannes Film Festival.
