Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Black Panther) stars in Universal's new film Queen & Slim, set to be released in North America on November 27, 2019, with filming starting in January. The film is a complex drama that tells the story of a Black couple, “Queen” and “Slim,” on their first date when they are pulled over by the police. The events that follow diverge from Get Out: the couple kills the officer in self-defense, and instead of surrendering, they go on the run together. The film aims to explore American social and political themes through this love story. The female lead, Queen, is currently casting for new faces. Lena Waithe, writer of Master of None and Ready Player One, wrote the screenplay, with her collaborator from Master of None, Melina Matsoukas, directing, marking her feature directorial debut. The script is adapted from a version written by controversial author James Frey, author of A Million Little Pieces, with new production company Makeready financing the project.
