The film tells the story of a child, Zhang Hanxiang, whose parents work away from home, and his grandmother, as they depend on each other in their hometown. As Zhang Hanxiang grows older, he increasingly misses his parents and yearns for city life; until he meets a girl named Yi Yi, who comes from the city to spend her summer vacation in the countryside. Zhang Hanxiang and his friend Zhang Zile listen to Yi Yi as she describes city life while also showing her the joys of rural living. After the summer ends, both Yi Yi and Zhang Zile return to the city, and Zhang Hanxiang becomes more considerate and mature. Soon after, Zhang Hanxiang's father comes back to take him to live in the city. Caught between the care of his parents and city life and the bond he shares with his grandmother, Zhang Hanxiang's heart is filled with conflict. From being mischievous to becoming understanding, a child's growth can often happen in an instant, but what they have to bear and face afterward are the harsh realities that do not belong to their age, reigniting social concern over the issue of left-behind children.
