The girl Jovana (played by Tess Amorim) and the boy Leo (played by Ghilherme Lobo) are best friends. Although Leo is blind, he yearns for independence and dislikes excessive protection from his parents. The new transfer student Gabriel (played by Fabio Audi) accidentally intrudes into Leo's world, changing the dynamics between Leo and Jovana. Leo experiences anxiety about falling in love with Gabriel, Jovana feels sad about Leo's distancing, and Gabriel's confused responses complicate the boys' and girls' world even more... The film "Love, Simple" is the feature debut of Brazilian director Daniel Ribeiro, adapted from his 2010 short film "Love, Hand in Hand," featuring the original cast. "Love, Hand in Hand" won the Best Short Film award at 11 film festivals. "Love, Simple" continues to tell a story of love that transcends vision through hand-holding, but unlike the short film, the focus of the story shifts from sexual awakening to the protagonists' independent growth. Independence becomes the core of the film, including the free will to choose whom to love. "Love, Simple" won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Panorama section at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival, as well as the Teddy Award, the highest honor for LGBTQ films.
