Michael (played by Steven Robertson) became fully paralyzed due to polio at a very young age, living in a rehabilitation center for disabled individuals where his daily needs are cared for, yet no one can understand the abstract language he uses, leaving him in constant loneliness. One day, a fellow patient named Roy (played by James McAvoy) enters Michael's life; Roy is also fully paralyzed but can move only his right hand. However, unlike other patients, Roy is sharp-minded and optimistic, and astonishingly, he seems to understand what Michael is trying to express. Roy's arrival brings a splash of color to Michael's gloomy life and rekindles his hope for the future.
